The largest national exhibition of electrical cars was held on the 11th of February in Madrid. The Cecilio Rodríguez gardens in Retiro Park became the scenario for this exhibition of cars that respect the environment. The objective of this exhibition, named the Madrid EDP Eco Challenge, was to show society that electrical vehicles are a real alternative to traditional petrol and diesel engine cars.
A total of 30 vehicles were exhibited by different manufacturers, such as Fiat, Seat, Peugeot or Mitsubishi , including quadricycles, mopeds, motorcycles and small industrial vehicles of other manufacturers that are also propelled by electrical engines. All of these vehicles were on display in Madrid with the purpose of showing citizens that this type of technology already exists and that the next step involves creating a network of recharge points on streets and public parking lots.
CIRCUTOR was the only company that displayed recharge equipment for electrical vehicles and the exhibition was a true success, with the massive participation of all sorts of professionals and authorities. The company displayed the RVE2, an electrical vehicle recharge station for its use on public roads.
RVE2 is an innovative charging system, since the user can use it autonomously by simply charging a rechargeable card that can allow its user to use up the credit available easily from any charging station. RVE2 has a series of built-in personal safety systems and it also includes state-of-the-art fraud prevention systems.
The initiative was backed by the Ministry of Industry, represented by Juan Luís Plá de la Rosa, Transport Manager of the Energy Saving and Diversification Institute (IDAE). Plá de la Rosa mentioned that Spain will have a million electrical and hybrid cars before 2014 and that the "Movele" project is in progress, which will be materialised with the creation of 2,000 electrical cars and the installation of 500 recharge points within the next two years.
In addition to the main car manufacturers, the Town Council of Madrid, Mobility Foundation and GT Sport participated in the event, with the presence of important figures, such as the pilot Carlos Sainz, who tried various electrical vehicles during the exhibition. He was surprised with the "absence of noise and how comfortable and easy to drive these cars are, and he is convinced that there will be races with this type of cars in the future.". He was impressed with the performance of the RVE2 car recharging station and stated that it is a vital element to turn the presence of electrical cars on our roads into a reality. |
